What Inspires you?
I have always enjoyed observing other people and finding the uncommon things about them
that brings good into the world. Not always but often I find that in association with the
members of my church.
3 Favorite Skills
I married without serving a mission and never expected to learn another language. Although it
was difficult, I was glad to have learned Spanish and Portuguese and use it normally in daily life.
For a while I thought that everyone had this skill but came to learn that I have an ability to
follow up details. Often without writing them down, they just come back to me and allows me
to remember what still needs to be done.
I have never seemed to have a problem getting along with others, and enjoy being with people.
2 Achievements
I agree with John, that raising our kids was one of my most rewarding achievements. Our 3 kids
are all adopted and the third was terminally ill when we got him. The time we were blessed to
have them with us, though at times was not easy, was a blessing to me.
When we were transferred overseas, I was concerned, but agreed to do it for “just 2 years”
considering a kind of ‘mission’. The 27 years we spent in other countries has blessed our lives
and taught me to adapt to situations I would have never volunteered to be in.
Who’s a hero of yours?
It may be cliché, but the longer I live the more I love the attributes and example of Jesus Christ.
Do you have a specific goal you would like to accomplish as a member of DELIVER’s board?
It seems that this will open up a lot of opportunities that we may not see now or expect, but I
hope that we can find something that I can do to help achieve the worthy objectives of DELIVER.
Fun Fact about you:
After getting married I have lived 27 years in Latin America and 22 in the USA. (It was great but
I’m glad to be home)

What Inspires you?
I am inspired and motivated when I see true happiness in people’s faces. Happiness that comes
from a momentary pleasure like an amusement park ride is good, but the really inspiring joy is
seen in the faces of a parent and child truly enjoying time together, a child that has achieved
something for which they worked hard, or someone that receives an unexpected but well-
deserved recognition etc. The joy in their faces is evident and inspires me to do what I can to
foment those kinds of moments. I also admire people that can accomplish that.
3 Favorite Skills
I’m somewhat OCD and many see that as odd, but I must say I often get enjoyment out of doing
things that others dread. Doing dishes for example. Turning a kitchen mess into something
clean and organized is easy and satisfying to me. It also has the additional effect of gratitude
from my wife. In the workplace it served me well. When the Japanese bought our company,
one pet peeve they had about the gaijin (non-Japanese), was that their spreadsheets were
shared too quickly and always contained errors. They had the habit of taking more time to
confirm the information than we did. However, they would come to me from all over the
company to get a copy of my summaries of the budgets because my OCD had organized the
information and checked it.
I like to fix things. My kids think I can fix anything.
I enjoy being multi-lingual, fluent in Portuguese and Spanish to the point that native Spanish
speakers would try to guess what country I was from, never considering I might be from the
USA.
2 Achievements
I don’t want to brag, but since you asked 1) I married a great wife, and 2) We raised 3 wonderful
kids.
Who’s a hero of yours?
John and Ada Davis are heroes to me. They were an older missionary couple that came to the
Dominican Republic to oversee the work of the first missionaries sent there. As they were
finishing their mission, they were called as the first mission presidents in that country. They
worked harder than I thought possible, and never stopped. Their selfless service and the love
they always showed for all of God’s children blessed the lives of everyone who’s path crossed
theirs in any way and set an inspiring example that many had never before seen. I was 28 and
knew from that time forward, that that was how I wanted to live my life.
Do you have a specific goal you would like to accomplish as a member of DELIVER’s board?
Find some way to bless the lives of children.
Fun Fact about you:
I have lived more of my adult life in Latin America than in my own country.
